Clarinetist Jerry Simas has built a dynamic, multifaceted career as both performer and educator, equally at home in solo, chamber, orchestral, and academic settings. He has served as Solo Bass Clarinetist and Utility Clarinetist with the San Francisco Symphony since 2012, appointed by Michael Tilson Thomas.
PERFORMANCE
In addition to his performances with the Symphony, Jerry is an active chamber musician. He is a member of the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble and performs regularly in chamber recitals throughout the Bay Area and beyond, including frequent collaborations with Symphony colleagues at Davies Symphony Hall.
TEACHING
Chair of the Woodwind Department and Professor of Clarinet and Chamber Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Jerry also coaches the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra and mentors youth and community ensembles throughout the greater Bay Area. He brings extensive performance experience and thoughtful, individualized guidance to private lessons, master classes, and ensemble coaching.
